Knowing your “Why” is an advantage - TCG Business Talk.

Anyone can sell trading cards when the market’s hot.

The hobbyist seller will tell you all about it. They rush to make money when the demand is high, because everyone wants everything and selling is easy. Get stuff from Walmart. Target. Who even cares? Just buy and resell. Easy, right?

But the market corrects itself.

Then when supply meets demand and the TCG market “corrects” itself. The scalpers who weren’t long-term oriented immediately plateau. They got stuck. No one buys from them anymore. If this sounds like you, don’t worry. We’ve all been there.

Business is about being long-term oriented.

That’s why I put a stop to it. Stopped worrying about chasing the next easiest flip. I started thinking about the bigger picture. Thinking about where my effort actually goes. So now I’m going to ask you what I asked myself.

Why TCG? Why are you even in the game?

There is no wrong answer, here. Maybe you started hustling, and want to see how far you can take it. Maybe you want to learn about business. Maybe you can’t stop the nostalgia. Maybe you dream of owning an LGS to give back to the community. What would that store look like? What are its values?

That is your “why”. The reason behind it all. Never lose sight of it, because it’s your motivation. Your drive. Your single biggest advantage that no one can take away from you.

TL;DR:

Most sellers can only ride the wave when the market’s hot. Knowing your “why” is a mental advantage that no one can take that away from you.
