What is Riftbound TCG?

Riftbound is the new official Trading Card Game for Riot’s League of Legends.

Lock in! Riot’s upcoming League of Legends TCG just got a fresh coat of paint and a new name. Say hello to Riftbound.

We first saw this League of Legends card game back in December 2024. The hype was real, but the card design felt off. Cool champions, but the frames and layouts didn’t have that signature Riot polish.

Yasuo, Riftbound TCG card

Yasuo, Unforgiven.

Riot listened, took notes, and hit the rework button. Just look at Yasuo, Unforgiven. Clean. Dripping with style. Compare it to the old designs and it’s night and day. Riftbound is here to be the most visually stunning TCG out there.

Riftbound is designed for multiplayer.

Magic: The Gathering’s Commander format dominates the multiplayer TCG world. That’s just facts. But Riot built Riftbound from the ground up for 2v2 and 4-player chaos. No need for extra rulebooks or ban lists. Just build your deck start slinging cards with friends. It’s a brilliant move that could make pull traction away from Magic: The Gathering’s Commander format.

Secret Rares are here.

Alternate arts? Secret rares? Riot’s got ‘em. Some of the best artists in the biz are bringing these chase cards to life. Expect bangers. Please, Riot, give us alternate arts based on League’s legendary skins. Star Guardian, PROJECT, Ruined King? Yes. We need it.

Proving Grounds is the ultimate starter kit for new players.

Riftbound Proving Grounds is a full beginner friendly product featuring Annie, Garen, Lux, and Master Yi. It’s designed to ease new players into the game without needing that one hyper invested friend to coach everyone. Board game meets TCG, making it easy to get into. Big win for new players and local game stores.

Release Timeline: China first, then global.

Riftbound launches in China in Summer 2025, with English versions dropping later. Likely October. Riot’s usual game launches take forever, but this TCG is moving fast. They’re also teaming up with UVS Games for distribution, a power move that’ll get Riftbound into stores and hands fast.

Riftbound card reveals are coming.

Now we have to wait for more reveals. But hey, Riot’s launching a Riftbound website and Instagram! At least we’ll get updates. And, Dave Guskin. If you’re reading this, drop the revamped Kayn card. We need it.

League of Legends TCG hype is real. Let’s go.
